If you have an iPhone you probably have a ton of Apps. About a week ago I started to notice that some of my Apps had the ‘wrong’ icon…..NPR news now had the Labyrinth icon, FAST had the Google icon and, worst of all, Facebook had the LinkedIn icon and vice-versa!
After much searching I found that; (a) this is a known bug, and, (b) it is easily fixed as follows;
1. On your iPhone open the App Store
2. Download any App (I used a free one)
3. Once the download starts, pause it by tapping on the icon
4. Completely shut down the iPhone by holding down the Home and on/off buttons simultaneously – you will see the Power Down slider – ignore this and keep holding the two buttons until the screen goes black
5. Wait a minute and then restart the iPhone by pressing the on/off button for 2-3 seconds (the restart takes around a minute)
6. Problem should now be fixed (you can resume downloading the app in step 2 by pressing its icon)
Worked for me.
(Update: bug is fixed with iPhone OS 3.1 release)

When you’ve put nearly $500m into a Company you really want and need it to succeed, which I guess is why Roger McNamee over at Elevation Partners is talking smack and arguing that iPhone owners will abandon Apple in droves in favor of the soon to be released Palm Pre!
“You know the beautiful thing: June 29, 2009, is the two- year anniversary of the first shipment of the iPhone. Not one of those people will still be using an iPhone a month later.”
And.
“Think about it — If you bought the first iPhone, you bought it because you wanted the coolest product on the market. Your two-year contract has just expired. Look around. Tell me what they’re going to buy.”
I own an iPhone and can categorically state that I will not be jumping ship. Why? Because the iPhone is more than just the phone itself..its the seamless integration with iTunes, the way it complements my iPod, the App Store…..and the fact that 90% of mobile app developers create apps for the iPhone before any other. And its the fact that Apple is a solid company with $b’s in the bank and a slew of great products, while Palm is…..well, none of those things! If I was Roger I’d be figuring a way to explain to my LP’s where all the money went.
